Saemon was the son of Kawakami Eichi and his wife; however, he was a participant in elaborate fiction that his mother was actually one of his father's concubines and that he hated his father. As a child he lived with the concubine, who was sexually abusive. Saemon eventually murdered the concubine in a manner that caused her to die in agony.
Saemon informed his chamberlain that Genji had proposed outlawing the term "eta" and replacing it with burakumin. He then told the chamberlain that Emily, Hanako and Taro had left for Cloud of Sparrows Castle aboard the SS Cape Muroto. He ordered the chamberlain to learn about the contents of a box they had taken with them.
